Hello well since this is going to be a long project maybe we can get a head start :)

Pmprog how are the translation going to be treated? And just a personal choice, I do not like getlocalization, or whatever that site is called. If you have the source language maybe you can posted and we can start working on it.

At the minute I've dumped all my strings out to a text file in the data/LANGUAGE folder.

However, at the minute, my file reader only supports ASCII, which is something that will probably need addressing if multiple languages are to actually be supported

So long as you support extended ASCII then at least latin based languages should be no problem :)

Will it be possible to create a little folder where the translation can be set so we can agree upon them before entering them.

for example we want to translate
STR_VEHICLES_INFO = "Citizens of Mega-Primus use two types of vehicle. There are common road traveling vehicles that use a low cost anti-gravity system embedded in the road surface and airborne flyers which employ more sophisticated Elerium powered anti-gravity engines. The bold red military vehicles are available for X-COM to purchase."

we will create a thread with just the "STR_VEHICLES_INFO" title and then if people want to discuss the translation it can be done only in that thread for that subject, clearly i can forsee many subject lines, but i think at least it will create a centralized area.

    thank you :)

Just use this board on the forum.

Please be aware, that I've deleted EN-GB.TXT and ES-LA.TXT, and all strings have been merged into STRINGS.XML; Please make sure that your XML editor supports UTF-8.

    Thanks

Hey, yes I realized, I was finally able to finally do a macro, it simplified the formatting was trying several editors, ultraedit was finally the one that worked best.
And I like this new XML setup, I already started the translation, but is going to take a while :) Also we want to make it sound official correct?

Not entirely sure what you mean by that. Do you mean as in being "formal", as opposed to casual/informal? If so, then yes

Hi xracer. I can help you with the translation if you need it.

Regrading your question, an option I can think of is adding the "aero" prefix to "vehicle".

    So it can be like:

    "Aeroveh?culo Policial"
    "Aeroveh?culo Phoenix"
    "Aeroveh?culo Civil"

    According to http://www.wordreference.com/es/translation.asp?tranword=hovercraft

Hovercraft - Aerodeslizador / Ala delta

But as we are talking about a hover"car", In my opinion "Aeroveh?culo" emphasises the fact that it is a self propelled vehicle, whitout saying "aerocoche".

    Hola DoctorMuerte,

Claro como no, toda la ayuda es bienvenida.

I am using, Aerodeslizador, so i was thinking

    Aerodeslizador Policial
    Aerodeslizador Civil

But i think you have a good point, the only thing is that i didn't want to use "vehiculo" i wanted to use "patrulla", as it is the common name for a "police car"
    So i was thinking
Patrulla Aerodeslizadora but that sounds so weird :)

Also i need to read a little more about the "actual tech" being used in the game, since we say hover-craft to that using fans to create a cushion of air, what about vehicles that use anti-gravity tech :) that will change the name drastically in order to differentiate the tech being used.

Well, we don't have a proper word in Spanish for hover, so I guess the most apropiate way is aerodeslizador.

yup, and that is why i am not sure of the best way to translate it :)

every way sounds a bit weird. But in order to move forward i guess we need to reach a consensus and i do not disagree with aerodeslizador.

    Hello All,
I think this is a dead thread but since it is relevant to translation wanted to ask, is it ok if we revise the translations?

I see that Spanish translations are noted to be 100%. Anyway just wanted to ask.
    Thank you

Most of the translation words I took from the Spanish version, so maybe they should be checked.
