Hello, I'm going to rewrite some of the UFOpedia articles I thought could do with expanding, or have grammatical errors, or are just one sentence, or don't fit with what is in the game (the only real example of this is the Lifetree/School entries, which say that students are taught with psionics, however the actual school map appears to be a regular pretty low tech school, and the Explorer which states it's the first vehicle to probe the alien structures when that isn't true). I don't really know to implement anything in-engine so I'll just copy and paste the text from the online UFOpedia and edit that, I hope that's okay.

Here goes then! Please let me know if this will be helpful or actually used, just something I felt was rushed when playing the game.

Looking forward to seeing what you produce @Chromeo

As to the explorer, i think this is just badly worded
The Probe is the first to explore the alien dimension (If you see my cut features thread, it also did a lot more)
The Explorer is the first to explore the alien structures (as it's often to risky to send a lone biotrans with all those UFOs)

I agree, it probably needs clarification as per the above

With regards to psionics in schools, i did read an explanation somewhere in the canon lore as to why they appear largely the same... Ill try to dig it out for you. I think it may have been in the rookies guide supplied in the Big Box versions of the game.

Thanks! It shouldn't take me too long to get down the list. Just let me know how you guys feel about the edits, if they have the right tone, and so on.

Shopping Mall: "The vast shopping malls are popular places for citizens. Although most goods are purchased via the Internet, the shopping mall allows potential customers to try before they buy."

Shopping Mall Edit: "The vast shopping malls are popular places for citizens to both shop and socialise. Although most goods are purchased via the Internet, the shopping mall allows potential customers to try before they buy, and is full of restaurants and bars. Its sprawling, high-up glass panelled construction is attractive to consumers, but represents a major headache for XCOM, as it is incredibly vulnerable to alien or friendly fire. In addition, care must be taken to avoid excessive casualties in ground fighting."

Actually while I'm on the subject, I also had a question about 'Alien Farm', it doesn't really seem like a farm, so I was wondering if the name could be changed or if that's not possible in the code. Or maybe the ambiguity is intentional since the briefing is also vague? I'll just leave that and School/Lifetree for now then, thanks.

Food Chamber: "The Alien food source appears to be plants. This building provides the perfect balance of light and heat for the Alien plants."

Food Chamber Edit: "From our observations of nutrition parcels recovered from captured UFOs and infiltration teams, the Alien food source appears to be made up mainly of exotic plant matter. As the surface seems inhospitable to life, we believe this building provides the perfect balance of light and heat for the Alien plants, and packages the finished material for consumption. Alarmingly, an informant has reported that many of the remaining full-blood Sectoids in hiding on Earth went missing some months ago, and our analysis concludes that their DNA is also present in the alien food."

Spawning Chamber: "This structure appears to be the source of all Alien eggs. Few Aliens enter the building but many are seen to leave. Our Scientists fear the existence of a frightful Alien Queen. Exercise extreme caution if you encounter such an Alien."

Spawning Chamber: "This structure appears to be the source of all Alien eggs. Few Aliens enter the building but many are seen to leave. Based on our understanding of the common Alien genetic code and life cycle, our biochemists believe this building is likely to contain a gargantuan Alien Queen that births all species we have encountered. For obvious reasons, her elimination would be a severe blow to our enemy, but extreme caution should be exercised if the tactical team encounters such an Alien."

The Alien Genetic Structure: "Our initial results show that the distinct Alien life forms are related genetically and form part of a complex life cycle."

The Alien Genetic Structure Edit: "Our initial results show that the distinct Alien life forms are related genetically and form part of a complex life cycle. We don't currently understand how such distinct and seemingly divergent organisms, all suited for combat, could be reproduced from the same source, but our biochemists believe that they will only learn more through analysis of live specimens."

Can u elaborate on this ? so they are loosely governed by political groups and criminal gangs which are hostile towards the Government.
make accent on things that not obvious to most

so that it was an image full of facts extracted from secret sources of a scientific report
I also think we need to see real examples of scientific and military reports - for inspiration

Well I based that on the fact that all the gangs and SELF and Mutant Alliance are set to be hostile against the government except Osiron, which is implied is through some dirty dealing or something, and the gangs actively fight the police.

I wasn't really sure what section it should be in but since it's only editing of the original source and not adding new features or anything I would put it here, feel free to move it wherever you think is best though.

Oh, I see, so the reports should go into knowledge not open to the public? Well I felt like I kind of went into that with the relation between the slums and the city, but these are just the initial reports available to XCOM so it isn't like they've done any in depth research yet.

I think that could be interesting, but I really just want to rewrite the shorter entries so they are up to the standard of the longer and more interesting ones in the original, not rewrite everything to have multiple pages and so on. I liked your idea of reports on the first, second, etc wars but that would be adding entries rather than just editing these original ones.

Skeletoid: "The Skeletoid is a highly effective Alien soldier with great intelligence and the ability to fly. Its agile body is capable of withstanding great damage and it can use a variety of weapons and equipment. The brain is susceptible to Psionic influence, but some form of resistance does seem to exist."

Skeletoid Edited: "The Skeletoid is a highly effective Alien soldier with relatively high intelligence and the ability to fly, which is caused by artificially implanted inflatable sacs which rapidly metabolise compounds within the body and in the air into buoyant gasses which are lighter than air. Its agile body is largely made of a cartilage-like material and is capable of withstanding great damage, and its claws can hold and operate a surprising variety of weapons and equipment. Much like the Anthropoids, the complex sapient brain is susceptible to Psionic influence, but some form of natural resistance does seem to exist."

Megaspawn Autopsy: "The Megaspawn is essentially a huge organic weapons platform. It has two distinct weapons systems grown into its body. Although these must be added artificially, the nervous system is directly connected to them, suggesting that the creature is solely a genetically engineered combat unit."

Megaspawn Autopsy Edited: "The Megaspawn is essentially a huge organic weapons platform. It has two distinct weapons systems grown into its body and wired directly into the nervous system, an energy beam and some kind of explosive launcher, which the tactical teams report are extremely dangerous. Built like a walking tank, its body is also lined with tough organic compounds and is incredibly resistant to weapons fire. It would be impossible for a creature like this to evolve naturally, and it confirms the theory that at least some of the aliens we fighting are artificially engineered combat units."

Megaspawn: "It is difficult to disable the Megaspawn's weapon systems because they are an intrinsic part of its structure. One weapon uses energy beams while the other fires a powerful organic missile, which is generated by specialized organs. Our tests also conclude that the Megaspawn is protected from Psionic attacks."

Megaspawn Edited: "It was difficult, and required extensive sedation, to disable the Megaspawn's weapon systems because they are an intrinsic part of its structure. One weapon is modelled after the disruptor cannon, while the other fires a powerful organic missile, which is generated by specialized organs. Even disarmed, its sheer bulk presents a danger, yet it is also pathetic in a way, being unable to even feed itself without help. Our tests concluded that its simple brain merely reacts instinctively to unknown stimuli and is not susceptible to Psionic attacks, but that its vision is very poor, presenting a possible weakness."

Anthropod: "The Anthropod is capable of performing all the actions of an equivalent human soldier and can use weapons and equipment. It can feed voraciously, but strangely it does not seem to live very long in our environment, with a life span of only five days. There seems to be no further stage of development beyond this form."

Anthropod Edited: "The Anthropod is capable of performing all the actions of an equivalent human soldier and can use weapons and equipment. It can feed voraciously, but strangely it does not seem to live very long in our environment, with a life span of only five days. In addition, it does not appear to be able to reproduce, and, while capable of abstract thought, it has intelligence significantly below a human's, mainly concerning itself with combat tactics. These traits mean it seems likely that this species is used merely as a brutish and aggressive tool by the unknown true leaders of the alien forces."

All human weapons: "X ammunition for Y weapon"

Minilauncher IN Missile: "This cluster of 5 incendiary bomblets is lightweight enough to carry in a jacket pocket and can be loaded in seconds, and was used to horrific effect against both civilians and combatants during terror raids on both sides of the Titan Conflict. Officially, it was recalled by Marsec, but is still common on the black market. Marsec has finally reached an agreement with XCOM to purchase the devices.

Minilauncher HE Missile: "This cluster of 5 high explosive bomblets are small enough to hang on a belt, but when loaded into a Minilauncher can destroy a military checkpoint or lightly armoured vehicle. Due to their popularity on the black market, they were officially recalled by Marsec after government outcry, but many still exist in the hands of gangs or semi-legitimate security forces. Marsec has finally reached an agreement with XCOM to purchase the devices.

Heavy Launcher IN Missile: "After negotiation with Senate representatives, XCOM has been granted access to this large incendiary missile, but whilst it is perfect for suppressing a small area or creating a killzone, it should be used with great care or not at all in populated areas for fear of public outcry."

Heavy Launcher HE Missile: "After negotiation with Senate representatives, XCOM has been granted access to this large high explosive missile, which is an ideal tool for creating new access points to buildings or destroying harder Alien targets, but should be used with care in upmarket surroundings, as too much property damage will turn the city's business leaders against XCOM."

Megapol Plasma Pod: "This clip is extensively shielded to reduce the danger of use, and only turns to live plasma after being readied by the Megapol Plasma Pistol. While expensive, it is considered a mark of status for a gang member to leave emptied Plasma Pods at a crime scene instead of Lawpistol Clips."

Auto Cannon IN Clip: "This clip for the Auto Cannon is a good choice for unarmoured targets, as it instantly inflicts moderate burns with one impact, and can briefly set the target alight with sustained fire."

Auto Cannon HE Clip: "While paling in comparison to larger rocket-based weapons, the high explosive clip can quickly disable a lightly armoured hostile, though it does not have the power to effectively foxhole terrain or to affect large groups."

Auto Cannon AP Clip: "The standard issue clip for the Auto Cannon, this is a good choice against fully armoured targets, as the tungsten-coated tip will quickly tear through most human armour. Against fully armoured Aliens, sustained fully automatic fire might be required, but the high capacity of the clip makes this realistic."

Megapol Laser Pod: "A common staple for Megapol tactical officers, the Laser Pod's primary advantages over conventional sniper rounds are that adverse conditions like strong wind can be entirely ignored, and there is no need to take account for bullet drop over long distances."

Marsec M4000 Gun Clip: "This ammunition is a relatively cheap solution for achieving both fully automatic close range, and medium range aimed fire, and has reasonable penetration against human targets. However, it may prove to be inadequate against more advanced alien armour."

Megapol Lawpistol Clip: "Lawpistol bullet casings are a common sight on the streets of the Mega-Primus slums, being employed by both Megapol enforcement officers and low-level gangsters. They have a low velocity and are poorly suited for tackling Alien forces head on, but are a reasonable secondary option when rockets are too dangerous."

Metro Roadgrav: "A standard road vehicle anti-grav unit."

Metro Roadgrav Edited: "This reliable and economical road anti-grav unit serves faithfully on the city's fleet of autotaxis and many other small civilian road vehicles, but is somewhat underpowered for military purposes."

Metro Turbograv: "A high powered road vehicle engine for standard size road vehicles."

Metro Turbograv Edited: "This road anti-grav engine comes equipped with sideboosters and airbrakes for better control, and an improved turbo injector for higher top speed and acceleration. It is an impressive but affordable piece of engineering that is used to give Megapol cruisers the edge over civilian vehicles in a chase."

Janitor Missile Array: "Primarily a short range anti-air missile system. It is effective against smaller air vehicles."

Janitor Missile Array Edited: "The Janitor Array, famously marketed alongside the humorous claim that it would 'clean up the streets', is a short range anti-air missile system which is effective in urban combat. Weapons like this have become a sad necessity for Megapol as gangs acquire the funds to field lightly armoured, and armed, hovercars. It may not be powerful enough to tackle large Alien craft, but it has a high capacity and is small and cheap enough to install on light vehicles."

I think I'll just keep going til I get all of them except for Lifetree/Schools, I'm having fun actually. I hope this material seems okay to include for you guys. I know it's not as important as coding and the like for getting the game working but I feel it helps give the world a nice in-depth feeling.

10MM Auto Cannon: "The standard cannon for police and military vehicles; it fires a high velocity armour piercing shell."

10MM Auto Cannon Edited: "The standard cannon for police and military vehicles, but also select vehicles of the city's gangs, it fires a high velocity armour piercing shell that tears through civilian hovercars. Terrified middle managers whose luxury apartments are pelted nightly by Diablo members for kicks are eager to declare an era of social crisis in the city. For XCOM's purposes, this weapon would only be useful when employed in groups against Alien craft."

Stormdog: "A Marsec vehicle renowned for its handling and power. Once loaded with weapons systems it proves to be a useful military vehicle and an ideal transport for X-COM Agents."

Stormdog Edited: "This low-profile roadcar is a Marsec staple quickly recognised by the Mega-Primus gangs, but can surprise the uninformed with its armour and the cannon that can be packed beneath the retracting panels in the hood, as well as the rapid speed and handling. However, it is vulnerable to sustained fire from above, as are the roads it relies on, and its primary role is for the classy transportation of 4 fully armoured Marsec - or XCOM - agents around the city."

Dimension Probe: "This unmanned automated probe is designed to explore the Alien Dimension and has minimal armaments and defenses. The Probe will enable X-COM to test its new adaptation of the Aliens inter-dimensional technology. Exploration is a vital requirement for developing further knowledge of the Alien threat and the probe is just the first step."

Dimension Probe Edited: This unmanned automated probe is perhaps the world's most advanced test vehicle, and has minimal armaments and defenses. Its Dimension Chamber, based on the Aliens technology, draws in energy from another plane and generates a field that warps the craft through space. This allows the Probe to fly indefinitely without refuelling, but most importantly, our physicists are confident that this field will protect the craft as it crosses through the Dimension Gate. This will allow us to observe the conditions of the alien homeworld, and how we might strike back.

Bio-Trans: "This inter-dimensional transport is designed for transporting Alien life forms or Alien technology captured during tactical missions in the Alien Dimension."

Bio-Trans Edit: "With inter-dimensional travel a proven concept, our tactical teams now need a large, well armoured, and reliable transporter that can carry whatever they might recover from the alien structures. The Bio-Trans can bring a dozen heavily-armed agents through the Dimension Gate to strike back at our foes, and has reasonable armour. However, it is no match for the masses of Alien craft on the other side of the Dimension Gate, and without additional fighter cover the troops will be at great risk relying only on speed to evade the enemy.

Explorer: "The first manned inter-dimensional vehicle produced for the initial exploration of Alien structures. The craft only has a small equipment and armament load and must conduct its excursions with great care."

Explorer Edited: "This is our scientists' first attempt at an inter-dimensional fighter craft, which can bring X-COM's firepower to bear against the craft on the other side of the Dimension Gate in defence of transport vehicles. In addition, the Explorer can itself be used as a light transport craft for eight agents to conduct a lightning raid on Alien structures. However, the craft is relatively fragile, with a small equipment and armament load, and must conduct its excursions with great care."

Retaliator: "The development of the Retaliator shifts the emphasis from exploration to attack. Our Engineers have at last produced a craft which can match the capabilities of many of the Alien ships."

Retaliator: "The development of the Retaliator marks a change in our strategic options from avoidance of hostile craft to attack. Incorporating all the advancements of the alien craft we have recovered, it is a heavily-armed hybrid which blends the warp field movement of the Alien craft with the aerodynamic agility of human fighters. Our engineers will at last be able to produce a craft which can not only protect X-COM's troop transports, but match the capabilities of the Alien ships and, with enough squadrons, destroy the hostile fleet before it ever reaches Mega-Primus."

Annihilator: The ultimate expression of X-COM technology - a mean, fast and devastating craft which, if properly equipped, is more than a match for the biggest Alien attack ships. The Annihilator will help secure X-COM domination of the Alien Dimension.

Annihilator Edited: "The ultimate expression of X-COM technology - a mean, fast and devastating craft which, if properly equipped, is more than a match for the biggest Alien attack ships. If we can develop enough of these craft, the Alien armada will no longer present a threat to Mega-Primus or humanity. If required, it can even be used to transport X-COM's tactical teams, who will need to strike the final blows against the Alien menace while the Annihilator secures the dark skies of the Alien Dimension.

Okay, I would be interested to see that! I wouldn't really consider it a translation cause it's changing the base English game, but up to you. I have no understanding of the technical aspects so I wouldn't know how to implement this.

I like the overall idea of your edits, but a few of them feel a bit casually worded for the scientists of a secret military organization. For example:
Instead, I would expect something more along the lines of:
That's just my take on it anyway, feel free to ignore me if you like :)

Slums Edit Mak: "The slum dwellings located outside the city boundaries are the remnants of an old civilization.Over the past decades billions of people died and the middle class disappeared. The remaining people are forced to live in slums in incredible poverty, they are doomed to a criminal life, slums are a source of people for military and service purposes, without most social guarantees, which is no better than ordinary slavery and an arena where corporations conduct various experiments on people, abductions and human trafficking.
Corporations use different criminal groups to influence politics, promote their interests and to monitor the situation in the slums. In people who are cut off from most of knowledges and new scientific discoveries, living in a polluted, aggressive environment, all this leads to a decrease in IQ and the troubles that go with it. They are dangerous places which are difficult to attack with ground forces. There is always the prospect of finding Psiclone or Elerium during a successful raid."

    maybe add some later
